Chicago Sky's Candace Parker and Las Vegas Aces' Jakelin Young were the top two players selected when WNBA All-Star Captains A'ja Wilson and Breana Stewart formed a team on Saturday.
Parker plays for Team Wilson and Young plays for Team Stewart. Seattle Storm's Sue Bird has already been assigned to play for Wilson's team, and Minnesota Lynx's Sylvia Fowles has been assigned to Team Stewart. The two captains swapped players and placed Bird on Seattle teammate Stewart.
Veteran birds and birds act as co-captains and starters. Both have announced that they will retire at the end of the season. The
game will take place on July 10th at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
Brittney Griner of the Phoenix Mercury Center is a seven-time All-Star and was previously named an Honorary All-Star and Starter. She has been detained in Russia on suspicion of drugs.
Team Wilson starters Wilson, Fowles and Parker will be joined by Ace Kelsey Plum and New York Liberty's Sabrinaionesque.
Other starters for Team Stewart are Connecticut Sun's 2021 League MVP John Kell Jones and Los Angeles Sparks' Nekao Gumike.
Wilson and Stewart have selected a team from players who have already been voted as starters and reserves. Captains are free to choose any player, regardless of their position or the conference they play, and trading is allowed.
Team Wilson's reserves include Ariel Atkins (Washington Mystics), Dearica Hamby (Ace), Natasha Howard (Liberty), Rhyne Howard (Atlanta Dream), Briona Jones (Sun), and Courtney Vandersloo. The route (empty).
