Driver charged after pursuit ends in death in Etobicoke

One man is dead and another is charged after an incident involving two vehicles travelling at high speed in Etobicoke early Sunday.

Around 4:40 a.m., Toronto Police were called to Dundas St. W. east of Nottingham Dr. where cops say a westbound silver Ford Escape SUV was being followed by a black Ford F150 pickup truck at high speed.

The vehicles lost control coming up to Nottingham Dr. and hit “fixed objects” on the roadway.

The SUV ended up in the backyard of a home and the pickup came to a stop on the road.

The 37-year-old Toronto man driving the SUV died at the scene.

A passenger in the pickup was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck was arrested.

Christian Salazar, 37, of Toronto, was charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death and dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
