The officers found two people who appeared to be asleep in a running car. They woke the driver and asked him to turn off his car.

Instead, “the male driver shifted the car into gear and fled the scene, allegedly colliding with the parked police vehicle and injuring the member in the process,” said RCMP Cpl. Martin Godard in a release.

The officer flicked on his emergency lights and briefly chased the car, but gave it up for safety reasons. He relayed information about the vehicle to Abbotsford police who found and stopped it.

The alleged driver, Dane Nikolas Lee Miller, was taken to jail and is facing charges of flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to stop at an accident and driving while prohibited.

The officer was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has been released from Chilliwack General Hospital.
