Durham Regional Police have arrested a suspect in a romance fraud investigation.

In February, a victim was contacted by the suspect who was posing as a retiring member of the military in Canada.

The victim started giving the suspect assistance and sent money to him and he allegedly defrauded her of $340,000.

In April, police started working with Canada Post in relation to an online romance fraud.

Because of the investigation, a warrant was executed at the suspect’s home, and police seized computers, fraudulent documents and cash.

Ituah Ogun, 33, of Elton Way in Whitby is charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of stolen property obtained by crime, and possession of counterfeit mark.
