Dynamo hold on for 1-1 draw at Los Angeles FC

The Houston Dynamo came close, but couldn’t put an end to their 12-match road winless streak as they settled for a 1-1 draw with Los Angeles FC Saturday night in Los Angeles.

The Dynamo did earn a point, though Houston has just two wins in their last 31 games away from home, dating back to April 2019. Houston has nine losses and four draws in its last 13 matches away from Texas.

Jose Cifuentes tapped in a corner kick that fell to his feet in the 50th minute, giving LAFC (2-3-3, 9 points) the lead after a scoreless first half.

Mark-Anthony Kaye missed a wide open redirect of a centered ball from Carlos Vela in the 34th minute for LAFC.

Maximiliano Urruti tied it for the Dynamo (3-3-3, 12 points) in the 58th minute, with Fafa Picault doing the hard work by moving the ball up the field and finding his teammate with a pass. Urruti barely missed another shot on goal moments later.

Diego Rossi had a chance to give LAFC the lead in the 85th minute, but his shot from inside the box was saved by Dynamo goalkeeper Marko Maric, who finished with four saves to one for his counterpart in net, Pablo Sisniega.

Raheem Edwards also got a quality shot for LAFC in the 88th minute, but it didn’t find the net. Rossi curled another shot over the bar in injury time of the second half, as the home side pressed for a winner that never came.

LAFC had to feel like it dropped points it could have won. The team controlled 65 percent of the possession of the ball in the game, and had 15 shots to three for the Dynamo.

LAFC remained unbeaten against Houston (4-0-4) in MLS play. The teams also played to a 1-1 draw in Houston on May 1.
