Erefris Montero hits 2 homers, Rockies win Giants title

Elehuris Montero hit two homers and scored five runs, and Connor Joe also went deep and had two hits as the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Francisco Giants 7-4 in Denver on Friday.

Winton Barnard added his two hits to Colorado to give them a five-game losing streak. Jose Urena pitched his 6 2/3 effective innings to win, and Daniel Bard struck out his 3 in the ninth to record his 25th save.

Joc Pederson hit his double for the Giants on his three-game losing streak.

The Rockies acquired San Francisco starter Alex Wood early in the game. Randall Grichuk led off the second inning with a single before Montero hit the first home run of the game to put Colorado ahead 2–0.

Colorado struck again in the fourth. Wood retired his two batters in the first before Joe hit a home run to left field for his sixth of the season, and the Rockies blew it in his fifth.

Bernard doubled to lead, and José Iglesias doubled to make him 3-0. Wood struck out Brendan Rodgers and forced C.J. Kron to line out, but Grichuk walked to preserve the inning.

Montero then chases Wood in left center field. It was his third long ball of the season.

Wood (8-10) allowed 7 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks in 4 2/3 innings, allowing him 3 strikeouts.

Urena went through his five innings in the first, first to Pederson with one out he only allowed a single. Pederson caught up to him in the sixth inning when he hit a solo home run to left field that put San Francisco on the board.

It was Pederson's 18th of the season.

The Giants started the rally in the seventh inning with the help of the Colorado pitcher. Mike Yastrzemski drew a one-out walk and Brandon Crawford hit a two-out single to center.

After Lucas Gilbreth relieved Urena and walked J.D. Davis into the bases loaded, Joey he hit Bart with a pitch to bring home Yastrzemski. Pinch hitter Austin Slater singled to right field and struck out two more.

Gilbreath defeated his Pederson, ending the threat.

Urena (2-4) had three hits, he gave up three runs, two walks and he struck out three.
