New York (AP) — "Elvis" earned box office revenue with "Top Gun: Maverick". After the two movies report the same ticket sales on Sunday, the final numbers on Monday have only "Elvis" as the king of the weekend.
According to Warner Bros. Monday's final figures, "Elvis" finally made $ 31.1 million in revenue from Friday to Sunday. That's just above Sunday's studio forecast of $ 30.5 million. When movie studios report box office revenues on Sundays, they can predict Sunday ticket sales fairly accurately.
Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures slightly overestimated how Top Gun: Maverick went on the fifth weekend. After the studio reported the same $ 30.5 million in the "Top Gun" sequel on Sunday, the final number of studios was $ 29.6 million.
Anyway, both movies worked well. Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Presley biography was better than expected, attracting many older movie fans who were part of the audience who were late to return to the theater during the pandemic.
