Family of four displaced by Orléans fire

An Orléans family of four has been displaced following a fire in a two-storey home Tuesday morning at 989 Ballantyne Ave. in the Fallingbrook neighbourhood.

Ottawa Fire Services were called just before 11 a.m. for a report of a fire in a garage.

When firefighters arrived on location, flames had extended through the roof of the structure.

Firefighters attacked the main body of the fire in the garage area and began searching the smoke filled structure to confirm all of the occupants were out of the building.

The fire had spread to the attic of the garage and home, and firefighters used an aerial ladder to open a section of the roof in order to ventilate the smoke and heat from the structure.

Neighbouring homes were also cleared as a precaution due to the intensity of the fire.

The fire was declared under control at 11:45 a.m. and, after verifying there was no fire inside walls or other areas, declaring the fire to be extinguished just after noon.

A fire investigator is on location to determine the origins and cause of the fire.

There were no reports of injuries.
