Firefighters douse blaze at popular Strathmere resort and wedding venue

Crews were on scene in minutes to douse a fire at Strathmere Thursday morning but the fire department reported there was significant damage to a kitchen in the farmhouse at the popular North Gower resort and wedding and events venue.

Firefighters were summoned at 7:55 a.m. to reports of smoke at the farmhouse at the Phelan Road West complex in rural south Ottawa.

Eight minutes later, crews confirmed heavy black smoke was coming from the kitchen. They “knocked down” the fire and remained on the scene to make sure flames hadn’t spread into the structure, clean up what they could to prevent further damage and clear the smoke.

No injuries were reported.

A fire investigator was dispatched to determine the cause.
