The federal government'sFisheries Departmentstates that it has observedNorth Atlantic right whalesintertwined in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence. The
department states that it is not clear what type of gear the whale is caught in or where the gear came from.

Whales seen, A 38-year-old man, Meridian, was identified betweenIles-de-la-Madeleinein Quebec andMiscouIslandin New Brunswick.
In today's news release, the ministry first discovered entangled whales on June 30, and marine mammal response partners said they would unravel them if they were seen again. He says he is waiting in anticipation.
This is the second North Atlantic right whale entanglement reported this year in Canadian waters.
