FIU LB Luke Knox dies at 22

Luke Knox, FIU linebacker and brother of Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox, died at the age of 22, the school announced Thursday.

Luke Knox died Wednesday night, school officials said. A cause of death has not been released, but the university said police did not suspect foul play. He was transferred to the Panthers after the 2016 campaign.

His FIU's Mike McIntyre, who spent his 2019 season at the University of Mississippi with Rook Knox, confirmed the news on social media.

"Words cannot express the heartfelt grief we feel at the loss of our teammate and friend Luke Knox." McIntyre wrote on Twitter Thursday morning. “It has been an honor to coach Luke at Ole Miss and the FIU. While I admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates will always be remembered. He had a special way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and confident.”

Luke Knox made 7 appearances for the Rebels last season, making a total of 23. Appeared in the game, made 11 tackles and recovered one fumble.

Bills coach Sean McDermott said Thursday that the team will support Dawson Knox and his family during this period.
