Five people displaced by morning fire in Saint-Raymond area of Gatineau

Five people were receiving Red Cross assistance after their homes were damaged by a fire in a three-unit residential building on Des Oliviers Street in Gatineau on Friday.

Firefighters were called to the two-storey building near the intersection of Saint-Joseph and Saint-Raymond boulevards at 6:18 a.m. after a smoke detector sounded in one apartment. Residents evacuated safely.

Crews found flames in the basement had spread to two units above. The fire was extinguished by about 8:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation by the Gatineau fire department.
