Gatineau police investigating fire in vacant home Thursday

The investigation of a fire at a vacant home in the Hull sector has been transferred to Gatineau police, the city’s fire service said Thursday evening.

The fire that started in the inner-rear portion of the two-storey residence on rue Papineau was reported by a passerby at about 4:40 p.m., and it was brought under control by 5 p.m.

Damage was limited to the rear part of the building, but it was estimated at $350,000, a media release said.

No injuries were reported, nor was anyone displaced by the fire, the release added.
