Google has released lists of its top trending search terms, questions and moments that were most important to Canadians in 2022.

Over the past year, Canadians turned to Google for updates on the war in Ukraine, the health and eventual passing of Queen Elizabeth, as well as late celebrities including Betty White, Bob Saget and Anne Heche.

As the Canadian national soccer teams head to their respective FIFA World Cups, Derek Van Diest is on the scene to cover all the action. Expect expert insights and analysis in your inbox daily throughout the tournaments, and weekly on Thursdays for the rest of the season.

But it wasn’t all serious searches. Wordle (and its Canadian spinoff, Canuckle) gave people some daily fun, while many needed to know the latest from Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial and more about SlapGate featuring Will Smith and Chris Rock.
