Abuja-Nigeria President Muhammad Buhari's avant-garde injured two people in northern Katsina on Tuesday, and unidentified armed groups injured them, a presidential spokesman said in a statement.
Buhari put on a pre-team of guards, protocols and media officers heading to the president's hometown of Daula near the border with Niger to prepare for the Islamic Eid al-Adha vacation. I wasn't in the car convoy. ..
"The attackers fired at the convoy from an ambush position, but were repulsed by the military, police, and guards who accompanied the convoy," the statement said.
Attacks on convoys highlight the ongoing security challenges facing the country, especially in the northern regions where armed groups are endemic.
In another attack late Wednesday, another unidentified armed group attacked a medium-sized security prison in Kuje near the capital Abuja, a correction service spokesman said in a statement.
"A man in the armed forces of the Nigerian correction service and other security agencies belonging to the management center are responding, the facility is calm and the situation is controlled," a spokesman said.
