Tehran, Iran (AP) — Schools and government agencies were closed in the Iranian capital and several other cities in the country on Monday after yet another sandstorm covered Tehran and its surrounding areas. ..

State television warned of poor air quality and advised the elderly, sick and children to take precautions. Banks and the Tehran Stock Exchange continue to operate, the report said.

This is the second time Tehran has closed schools and government agencies, and the fourth terrible sandstorm since mid-April. Schools and government agencies in Tehran were closed for the first time due to a sandstorm in May. However, in the western part of the country along the Iraqi border, schools and offices are frequently closed due to sandstorms.

Tehran is one of the most polluted cities in the world. Experts have blamed poor government policies, desertification and low water levels, and climate change for the frequency and intensity of recent sandstorms.
