Is Toronto Raptors’ head coach Nick Nurse paving the way for his Toronto departure?

A report from ESPN’s Tim Bontemps in Philadelphia where the Raptors were taking on the Sixers Friday night certainly seemed to suggest Nurse is at least considering a move.

According to the Bontemps piece, Nurse was asked about his future in Toronto beyond this season and replied that he would “take a few weeks to see where I’m at” at the conclusion of the season.

Later in the interview Nurse was asked if this was in fact him suggesting a move to a different team might be something he was considering.

Nurse replied “No, I’m concentrated on this job, for sure, and this game essentially. But I think 10 years is a good time to sit back and reflect a little bit.”

The beginning of that reply and the end sound very much at odds with one another.

Nurse is in his fifth year as head coach of the Raptors and had a previous five as an assistant under Dwane Casey.

Nurse has one year remaining on the contract extension he signed in September of 2020 that would pay him $8-million for that final season.
