TOKYO — Japan’s government on Friday confirmed a Japanese national in his 40s had been detained by Myanmar security police in the commercial capital of Yangon.
The announcement comes after a Japanese freelance journalist was detained at a protest in Yangon, according to one of his colleagues. It would be the first detention of a foreign reporter since a military coup on Feb. 1. (Reporting by Kiyoshi Takenaka; Editing by Alex Richardson)
