Kansas City, Missouri — After Kansas City woman was indicted Her 2-year-old son was found dead in a home littered with obvious drugs and drug paraphernalia, prosecutors announced Thursday.
Michaela Chism, 36, was found dead Wednesday after she was charged with two felonies for endangering the welfare of her child, police found. said the Jackson County Attorney's Office.
The hospital later found traces of amphetamines in the boy's body, according to court records, and police said her 3-year-old boy, who was found at home, also tested positive for amphetamines.
According to probable cause documents, Chizum admitted to taking drugs such as methamphetamine and fentanyl while living in her home.
In the evening, she said she noticed that her son was motionless and that she realized that he was dead. She moved him from the couch to the bed after the police first arrived for a home health check.
Chism was unable to tell police when she found her child or when she moved her to bed, according to the statement.
Prosecutors demanded a bond of $150,000 from her. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
Online court records do not list the name of an attorney representing Chism.
