Man, 31, shot in Place Jacques-Cartier in Old Montreal

A 31-year-old man was shot and injured Saturday night in the Ville-Marie borough in Montreal.

Calls to 911 around 7:55 p.m. alerted Montreal police to gunshots and a person possibly shot in Place Jacques-Cartier in Old Montreal.

The man was seriously injured in the upper body, but remained conscious. He was transported by ambulance to hospital, said Montreal police spokesperson Julien Lévesque.

Police erected a security perimeter to analyze the scene with the assistance of a dog handler and a forensic identification technician.

In the middle of the evening, police did not know the circumstances of the incident or the condition of the victim.
