A man in custody after a Calgary firefighter was "dragged" into a stolen car

A man is detained on Saturday afternoon after a Calgary firefighter was injured in a stolen vehicle.

While at the scene, police said the firefighter was "dragged into the vehicle when the driver escaped."

The firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police officers are at risk Due to the nature of the suspect's driving, which he said was high, CPS deployed HAWCS to allow the vehicle to be located and monitored.

Once discovered, police officers were able to safely detain the suspect.

"In such cases, our priority is always to put public safety first." , Duty Insp. Jeff Penoyer said in a news release on Saturday.

"The driver showed little interest in the safety of the general public and the first responders of our peers, so we from the entire service to resolve the case safely.

The investigation into the case is ongoing and the charges against the driver are pending, police said.
