Shamattawa, man. — The RCMP in northern Manitoba states that the state's independent investigation unit was notified after a man was seriously injured in a shooting involving police.
Police said in a news release that a Shamattawa detachment, more than 700 km northeast of Winnipeg, responded to reports of a man walking on the road with a gun.
They say police officers immediately began patroling the area, hearing some gunshots during the patrol and heading for them.
According to their release, they placed the 22-year-old suspect outside his residence and were fired as a result of interaction with police officers.
Police say a suspect from the area was seriously injured and taken to a nursing station.
The policeman is not injured.
