Croatian Marin Syrick announced on Monday that he had withdrawn from Wimbledon due to an ongoing incident of COVID-19.

Cilic was seeded number 14 and was scheduled to play his first round match against American Mackenzie McDonald on Tuesday. He was replaced by the lucky loser Nuno Borges of Portugal in a draw.

Cilic, 33, advanced to the French Open semi-finals as the 20th seed earlier this month. He won the only Grand Slam title at the 2014 U.S. Open and was a Wimbledon finalist when he lost to the great Swiss Roger Federer in 2017.

In an Instagram post, Cilic showed that he tested positive before Monday, but is still symptomatic.

"I expected to be independent and ready, but unfortunately&I couldn't compete at best and I still feel sick." Cilic writes. "I'm afraid I can't see @Wimbledon&end the grass season like this. I'm looking forward to fighting again next year!"
