The Miami Marlins placed first baseman/designated hitter Garrett Cooper on Friday — backdated Wednesday — on the 7-day concussion injured list in one of the few roster moves.

Cooper hasn't played since Tuesday when a ball hit the side of his helmet during his eighth inning in a win over the San Diego Padres. He left the game and was replaced by a pinch runner.

Cooper was named an All-Star for the first time this summer, and he's batting .269 with seven homers and 42 RBIs in 94 games this season. A wrist bruise kept him out a week and a half from his late July to early August.

The Marlins also optionally sent right-handed pitcher Eliza Hernandez to Triple-A Jacksonville, and outfielder Geller he recalled Encarnacion and right-hander Tomminance from Triple-A.

Hernández spent his fifth season in the MLB with his 3-6 record, appearing in 19 games with an ERA of 6.33. He spent all his time in Miami. Nance has appeared in 20 games (one start) with the Marlins this season, going 0-1 with a 5.46 ERA.

Encarnacion achieved the go-ahead for his Grand His Slam with the Marlins in his MLB debut on June 19. This was his only hit in two games before being sent back to Triple-A.
