Mexican ‘friendly” bear castrated to deter more human contact

A “friendly” bear featured in a video that went viral last month after it sniffed a woman’s hair in Mexico has been castrated.

The BBC reported that the male black bear, who got up close and personal with the woman at Chipinque Ecological Park in San Pedro Garza Garcia, had the operation.

The woman took a selfie with the bear, who is known locally as the “friendly bear,” after he went up to her and sniffed her hair.

Mexican officials said they castrated the bear and relocated him due to concerns that he had become too accustomed to humans.

Locals said the bear had been sleeping in their backyards. The BBC reported that plans called for the bear to be released in the Sierra de Nido mountain range in Chihuahua state.
