A three-time national collegiate wrestling champion, Spencer was aiming for a fourth championship when he was defeated by No. 4 seed Ramos in an upset.
The match, aired live on ESPN, saw Ramos pin Spencer at the end of the third quarter after he made a comeback. In a replay, Cathy was shown clenching the arm of another woman while appearing to scream.
She then removed her black-framed glasses, destroyed them with her hands, threw them to the ground and walked away sulking as Ramos was named the winner of the bout.
The online peanut gallery either related to the mother’s anguish or found the moment humorous.
“The only thing that will be remembered more than this loss is the way his mother behaved,” one commented.
“That dude’s mom said, ‘I never want to see this idiot in 20/20 vision ever again,'” another wrote.
“This is a great example to show your kids why it is important to lose with class and respect. You never know who is watching. If you don’t teach them as kids they act like this as adults,” one person weighed in.
