Montreal Pride Parade canceled hours before event due to lack of volunteers

Pride Montreal says the iconic parade that concludes the celebration of the festival's LGBTQ+ community has been canceled due to a lack of staff.

Festival executive his director Simon Gamache said the event scheduled for today was canceled due to "security reasons."

Pride Montreal issued a statement on his Twitter saying it had made the decision with the assistance of the city police as there were not enough volunteers to ensure safety along the parade route.

Thousands of people were expected to march through the downtown core this afternoon.

Pride Montreal said other activities are still planned for the Olympic Park.

Montreal's Pride Parade has celebrated progress in LGBTQ+ rights, diversity and inclusion for the past 40 years.

The parade was scheduled to start at 1:00 pm. Along Rene-Levesque Blvd he follows the route for 2.9 kilometers. Between Metcalfe and Alexandre DeSeve streets.
