New wildfires reported in BC's North Shuswap area, BC Wildfire Service says

New wildfires are breaking out in the remote areas of North Shuswap.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire is located on the east side of Seymour Arm on Lake Shuswap.

Dubbed the Mount Grice Hutchinson Wildfire, the fire lies about 20 kilometers south of the Community Seymour Arm. It is also located approximately 14 km northeast of Anglemont.

Currently spread over 4 hectares It was spotted on Tuesday, burning on a steep, heavily forested slope near the lake.

"With no road access to the area, crews will either rappel from a helicopter, land at a helipad, or take a boat across Lake Shuswap to the site," he said BC. Wildfire said.

"Firefighters are assisted by four helicopters using Lake Shuswap as a water source. For your safety, the safety of our staff, and your business, please stay clear of this area.”

Residents of Apex Mountain Village are returning home.

On Wednesday, BC Wildfire received the green light for higher temperatures of the week.

"Rank 1 and Rank 2 fire behavior was observed. This means that the fire is a smoldering surface fire that spreads slowly in an open flame." BC Wildfire said.

He also added that firefighters and aircraft responded to his 32 new bushfires that started this week in the Kamloops fire zone. However, of all the wildfires discovered last week, none have been classified as out of control.
