Nuggets, Wizards complete four-player deal

Denver Nuggets and Washington Wizards closed a deal for four players on Wednesday.

The Nuggets are sending guards Monte Morris and Swingman Will Barton to Wizards in exchange for guards Kentavious Caldwell Pope and Ish Smith.

With this move, Smith plays for his 13th team (NBA record).

"We are very pleased to add Monte and Will as proven players in the point guard and shooting guard positions that were our top priorities to be addressed during this offseason," Wizards said. Tommy Sheppard, president and general manager, said in a news release announcing the trade. "Monte has steadily improved his all-round game, ending his career year while Will was a consistent scorer and a three-point threat while Will was in Denver."

Morris, 27, averaged 12.6 points, 4.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 75 games (74 games) during the fifth season of 2021-22 in Denver.

Burton, 31 years old, averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 71 games (all starts) in the 10th NBA campaign. He has been with the Nuggets since February 2015.

Coldwell-Pop, 29, average 13.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, shot 39.0% out of 3 points in 77 games (all starts). Wizard of 2021-22.

Smith, 34, averaged 6.3 points, 3.8 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 65 games (one start) between Washington and the Charlotte Hornets last season.
