Perry, Florida (AP) — Authorities said a teenage girl was seriously injured when a shark attacked her off the Gulf Coast.
According to a news release from the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, the attack occurred off Thursday afternoon off Keaton Beach.
According to a statement from her family, a 17-year-old girl was scalloped underwater with her family when a 9-foot (3 meter) shark wrapped her chin around her thighs. I was looking for.
The girl pierced the shark's eyes and hit it before her brother, her firefighter, repelled the shark and pulled it into her stranger's boat. Her brother put a tourniquet on the girl's leg to delay her blood loss.
After she was taken to the shore, the girl was airlifted about 60 miles (95 km) to a hospital in the state capital, Tallahassee, officials said. Doctors told her family that the girl's legs were severely damaged.
Authorities did not immediately know what shark bit the girl.
