Pipes used by N.S. Fire department damaged in 'related' acts of vandalism

Nova Scotia RCMP someone damaged a pipe at an Antigonish County gas station used by the local fire department. I'll do an investigation later.

Police said the Antigonish District RCMP responded to reports of damage to a petrol station on the monastery's Old Abbey Street around 11:20 am on Tuesday.

``RCMP officials learned that between July 31 and August 8, the water pipe at the water station used by the local fire department had been cut.''

"Damage to a gas station may have delayed the fire department's response and impacted public safety."

RMCP spokesperson Cpl. Chris Marshall said in an interview that the gas station is being used by the nearby Tracadie & District Fire Department.

"It wasn't completely cut out, but it was chopped up," said Marshall, noting that the air coming in through the cut would affect the water pressure. "It doesn't look crazy because the entire pipe isn't completely blocked, but it still interferes with the ability of firefighters to pump water from the water station."

He said the pipe had since been fixed and thankfully the problem was discovered before an emergency occurred.

"But in the end, if we weren't aware that we were disconnected before we needed to fire the station, we might have had problems and difficulties using the petrol station." he said.

"Of course I am concerned when you are talking about such infrastructure being damaged."
