Prince George RCMP are on the lookout for a man they say was caught on video stealing a taxi.
A taxi driver told police that his cab was stolen from a Prince George residence around 5 a.m. on Feb. 23.
“The driver of the taxi stated he started the taxi to warm it up and left the keys inside the running vehicle. When he returned 15 minutes later, the vehicle was gone,” RCMP said in a news release.
The vehicle was recovered 25 minutes later, parked and unoccupied.
Also recovered was surveillance footage of the unauthorized driver.
The RCMP is now circulating the photo of the suspected car thief in hopes that someone might recognize him.
“Once again, police are reminding the public that it is not safe to leave your running vehicle, with the keys inside, unoccupied for any length of time. It takes mere seconds for thieves to take your vehicle in these circumstances,” said RCMP Const. Jennifer Cooper.
