In a series of moves announced Wednesday, the Texas Rangers activated primary closer Joe Barlow from their 15-day injured list and named veteran right-hander Garrett Richards.

Right-handed Barlow, 26, had been sidelined for just over a month after developing a blister on his right index finger. He appeared in a total of four games at Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A Frisco, holding 5 his 1/3 innings scoreless in his final three appearances.

Barlow, 26, is 3-1 with a career-high 13 saves and his 3.26 ERA in his 30 bullpen outs this season.

Richards, 34, has been pitching outside the bullpen for most of the Rangers this season, making it his 12th Major League start and first with the Rangers. He appeared in his 32 games in his 42 2/3 innings, going 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA (he started twice), and the team promoted him to the minor leagues. He has seven days to either trade, release, or transfer permanently.

In his career, Richards has played for the Los Angeles He Angels (2012-18), San Diego Padres (2019-20), Boston Red He Sox (2021) and Rangers.

Additionally, the Rangers moved outfielder Cole Calhoun to his lock in the round and began rehabilitation to recover from a right heel injury. Calhoun, 34, has appeared in 97 games for Texas this season, batting .211 with 11 homers and 43 RBIs.

Left-handed Matt Moore, who was placed on the paternity list on Sunday, was moved to the bereavement list on Wednesday. Moore, 33, is 4-2 with a 2.00 ERA in 2022 for Texas in 42 relief appearances.
