Reds beat Phillies 1-0 with walk-off single in 9th inning

As the hosts Cincinnati Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0 on Wednesday, Jose Valero hit a walk-off single with two outs to center field in the bottom of the ninth to earn Albert Almora Jr. did.

Alejo Lopez threw his three of his six hits for the Reds, snapping a two-game losing streak.

His starter Nick Rodoro for the Reds kept his seven scoreless innings, giving him five hits, his longest of the season. Lodolo struck out his 8 and was 2 walks.

Alexis Diaz (4-1) won his second inning clean sheet.

Phillies starting Ranger Suarez allowed only three hits in his seven innings. Suarez has 8 strikeouts and 2 walks. Seranthony Dominguez (6-4) allowed the only run and lost.

Dominguez walks Almora with his one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Aristides Aquino struck out and Lopez singled to left. Valero then hit the game-winning RBI single to center.

The Phillies only had five hits.

Nick Castellanos singled to right to give the Phillies the lead in his fourth. One out later, Darrick Hall blooped a single to center. Matt Vierling burst out into the shallow center and Nick Maton grounded to end the threat.

In his four innings of the first, the Reds had only two hits. Both were singles, with Jonathan India and Lopez each having his one hit.

Alec Bohm had a shot on the caution track with his one out in the fifth inning. But Aquino lunged and made a stellar catch, then turned and doubled Rhys Hoskins from first base.

Lopez hit a leadoff double in his fifth inning, but was eventually stranded and the game remained scoreless.

Diaz retired the Phillies in his eighth place with just seven pitches.

TJ Friedl started his eighth with David Robertson on his first off relief. India popped out to shortstop, Jake Fraley struck out, and Kyle Farmer popped out to back right.
