Reports: C Austin Romine signs one-year deal with Cubs

Free-agent catcher Austin Romine agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Chicago Cubs, multiple outlets reported Friday.

Romine, 32, batted .238 with two homers and 17 RBIs in 37 games with the Detroit Tigers in 2020 following eight seasons with the New York Yankees (2011, 2013-19).

His career numbers include a .239/.278/361 slash line with 27 homers and 152 RBIs in 405 games.

Defensively, Romine did not commit an error in 276 chances behind the plate with the Tigers last season. He had two passed balls and allowed 23 stolen bases in 29 attempts.
