The Philadelphia Phillies made some moves before the closing date on Tuesday.

Now there seems to be a definite chance to play off for the first time since 2011.

Kyle Gibson was perfect with 6 innings on Friday, followed by 8 innings, and the Phillies clubd 5 innings. The home run defeated the visiting Washington Nationals 7-2. Philadelphia aims to win the Nationals three times in a row and four times in a row when the teams meet again on Saturday.

Rhys Hoskins, Nick Castellanos, Darick Hall, J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber hit the Phillies home run on Friday. The Phillies have won eight of the last nine games and tied at the final National League playoff spot.

"We have a good team," Gibson said in a post-match interview on Apple TV. "We've added some good players to make us better. There's also an MVP along the way."

Noah Syndergaard, acquired from the Los Angeles Angels this week, Philadelphia on Thursday. I won in Delphia. Two MVP Bryce Harpers may return from a broken left thumb by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, Phillies will continue to produce on the plate. Realmuto hit three times on Thursday, with seven of the team's nine hits being extra-base hits.

Phillies hands the ball to Rangers Ares (7-5, 3.60 ERA) on Saturday. At Suarez's latest start, he allowed three hits and hit eight in six innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 30, but no decision was made.

Suarez is 3-0 and ERA is 2.45 in 9 career games (2 starts) with the Nationals. He defeated Washington on June 17, after hitting three runs with six hits in the 52/3 innings.

Phillies recalled Nick Maton from Triple A Lee High Valley on Friday and offered another left-handed bat. Right-handed Yairo Munoz was selected as an option for the Lee High Valley.

The Nationals want to avoid four consecutive defeats when fighting the Phillies on Saturday.

Due to Friday's defeat, Washington fell 9-40 this season against enemies in the National League East.

The Nationals attack was quite lethargic as Luis Garcia managed two of the team's three hits. Ildemaro Vargas sent a sacrifice fly and Keibert Ruiz scored the RBI.

That's it.

"I had to try to raise the ball a little more," said Washington manager Dave Martinez. "The ball (of Gibson) was moving a lot. In the second half of the game, I could hit the ball better, but he was good."

Patrick Corbin (4-15, 6.57) ) Is scheduled to start for the Nationals on Saturday. The defeated major left-hander allowed seven hits and four runs in the 41/3 innings, starting Monday with the New York Mets.

"It seems to happen a lot. The ground ball is probably a foot or two away from our guys," Corbin said after the match. "But I'm just trying to sell to these guys high quality. The lineup over there is very good and that's all I can do."

Corbin is 6-6 with the Phillies. He has recorded 3.88 ERA in 16 career starts. He lost to Philadelphia on June 10 after giving up 9 runs (2 goals) with 8 hits in the 31/3 innings.
