Homeward Bound posted on their Facebook page, “Fishopher has left the building!” and recounted how people had stood in line hoping to adopt the cat.
It all began with a petfinder.com listing that read in part, “Fishtopher is not a fish out of water, but he is out of sorts at the shelter.
“He is very sad and depressed and will only eat when he has company. Five year old Fishtopher was found as a stray, maybe he is missing his family.”
According to the New York Post, the listing went viral and hundreds of people expressed their willingness to adopt Fishtopher.
On their Facebook page, Homeward Bound also said, “We’re super happy for him, but if you were interested in him, have no fear. We have hundreds of other kitties who are just as wonderful and are wishing that people would come and stand in line for them.”
Fishtopher is now a hero of sorts, as the attention paid his plight wound up helping other cats get adopted.
His viral popularity helped with the adoption of several other cats at the New Jersey shelter: Batman, Catwoman, DiGiorno, Dingus, Eggplant, Lobster and Olive Oil.
Fishtopher now has his own social media presence where he can post important cat news with the help of his new human.
