SINGAPORE — Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong warned on Monday of possible miscalculations over Taiwan Strait tensions, saying amid deep suspicion and limited engagement between the United States and China that the Taiwan Strait could soon be closed. He said it was unlikely to be eased.
"A storm is brewing all around us. Sino-U.S. relations are deteriorating, with intractable problems, deep suspicions and limits to engagement," Lee said to the Singaporean people. In a speech ahead of the day, he added that the region needs to prepare for a less stable future. (Reporting by Chen Lin; Writing by Martin Petty)
