The crew is determining if there was significant damage to the structure of the tunnel.
Early Friday morning, after the car ignited around 6am, the southbound Louis-Hipporite-La Fontaine tunnel was closed.
According to Hélène Nepton, a spokesperson for Sûreté du Québec, there were no serious injuries, but the crew had to make sure that the structure was not seriously damaged, so the tunnel continued after 9am. Remained closed.
The La Fontaine Tunnel was built in 1967, and Transport Quebec began extensive work this yearto extend the life of the tunnel for another 40 years.
