A man is detained after a thief steals and crashes a Toronto police supervisor's K-9 unit SUV. Located at the western end of the city.
Shoppers and Gawker stood outside the parking lots of the Metro grocery store on Kiel Street and western Lawrence Avenue on Monday to take pictures and videos of the wreckage.
The SUV's front end was crushed, the airbag was deployed, and the vehicle's hood bounced up and pushed into the front window. The two police dogs at the rear of the vehicle were unharmed.
"Fortunately it wasn't during the day. Can you imagine an injury? Who does this?" Said a bystander named Dano.
Another man looking at a crumpled SUV said it was a "pretty bold move."
Craig Young, assistant inspector in charge, said the incident began around 4:20 am. In the area.
Police said a man on the scene drove west to steal a vehicle before being involved in a collision between Lawrence and Kiel. They are said to have tried to board several cars at the scene of the collision, including a nearby taxi, before he was arrested.
The stolen car driver takes out a traffic light standard in the center of the road, leaving a large trail of wreckage hundreds of meters long, and finally in a metro grocery store. Arrived at the parking lot.
The suspect was detained and taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
"It was a very bold and brave act for someone to ride a police car," Young said.
At this time, nothing has been announced about potential billing.
