Strathcona RCMP suspects arson as the cause of Sherwood Park garbage container fire

Strathcona County RCMP is investigating a series of garbage fires that appear to be arson.

The first series of fires broke out on June 30th between 12:30 am and 1:00 pm. Strathcona County Emergency Services responded to two trash can fires east of Sherwood Park's Salisbury Complex High School.

Four days later, at 5:50 am on July 4, RCMP and SCES responded to a series of trash fires at the commercial strip mall complex at 985 Fir St. in Sherwood Park.

Two trash cans were burned in front of Safeway and London Drugs. In front of Tim Hortons, two trash cans and two planters were on fire.

RCMP has a reason to believe that all these fires were intentionally set.

The fires caused no property damage and no injuries, RCMP said in a news release Thursday.
