Tennis legend Serena Williams to retire after US Open in September

Serena Williams says she's ready to walk away from tennis after winning 23 Grand Slam titles, embracing another child and her business interests focused.

"I turn 41 this month and I have something to give," Williams wrote in an essay published Tuesday by her Vogue magazine.

Williams said he doesn't like the word retirement and prefers to think of this stage in his life as "evolving away from tennis and into other things that are important to me."

Williams is playing in Toronto this week in the hard-court tournament leading up to the US Open, the final Grand Slam event of the year, which starts in New York on August 29th.

The American has won more Grand Slam singles her titles in her professional era than any other woman or man. Margaret Court has amassed more than 24, although she won some in her amateur days.
