Tigers activate Nomar Mazara, option Victor Reyes

The Detroit Tigers announced four moves before Saturday’s home game with the Minnesota Twins, with the headliner being the return of outfielder Nomar Mazara from the 10-day injured list.

Also on Saturday, the Tigers optioned outfielder Victor Reyes to Triple-A Toledo, placed RHP Erasmo Ramirez (right pectoralis strain) on the 10-day injured list and recalled right-hander Joe Jimenez from Toledo.

Mazara, 26, is hitting .237 with two home runs and five RBIs through 12 games with the Tigers. A lifetime .258 hitter (82 homers, 328 RBIs), Mazara is in his sixth major league season; his first with Detroit.

The Tigers placed him on the injured list April 15 with a left abdominal strain.

Reyes, 26, hit .304 and .277 the past two seasons but is off to a rough start in 2021, hitting just .143 (one homer, three RBIs) through 21 games.

Ramirez (32-39 with a 4.31 ERA in nine seasons) had just been recalled on Friday. Jimenez is the Tigers’ former closer, with nine saves in 2019 and five in 2020.
