Tigers overcomes starter injuries and defeats Guardians

Eric Haase returned home, Riley Greene knocked two runs, and host Detroit Tigers won the Cleveland Guardians double-header sweep 5-3 on Monday night.

Jonathan Schoop provided two hits, a score and a RBI. The scoop finished the doubleheader with 6 hits.

Harold Castro added two hits and won a run.

Tyler Alexander (2-3) scored a victory by throwing a no-scoring relief in 3 1/3 innings. Joe Jimenez scored the last three outs on his first save of the season.

The Tigers won the opener 4-1 behind Garrett Hill, who threw 6 innings in his major league debut.

Detroit drew within 3-2 at the bottom of the inning. Haas reached Pilkington's two-based error and finished third in Harold Castro's single. Haas scored with a scoop one-out single, and Castro got home with Victor Reyes' fielder's choice grounder.

The Tigers advanced in 6th place. Spencer Torkelson led the single and finished third in Reyes' two-out single. Green knocked in Torkelson with an infield hit.

Haas left Bryan Shaw for his sixth home run of the season, limiting Detroit's advantage to 5-3.
