LONDON — British police on Thursday charged a 38-year-old man deported to the UK from Turkey with terrorism.

Prosecutors originally said he authorized the prosecution of Aine Davis under the Terrorism Act in 2014. After being deported by Turkish authorities, he was arrested on arrival at Luton airport and is due to appear in court on Thursday morning.

The BBC and other media reported that Davis was held hostage in Syria and accused of being part of an Islamic State group called the "Beatles" because of his British accent.

"Mr Davis, 38, has been charged with terrorism offenses and possession of a firearm for purposes related to terrorism," said Crown Attorney's Office. (Reporting by Sivam Patel, Bangalore and Kate Holton, London; Editing by Grant McCool and Raissa Kasorovsky)
