Saturday's Ukrainian bombardment forced Russian troops to stop the evacuation of people from the Sieviero Donetsk chemical plant just hours after the Moscow troops occupied the city. The Tas news agency quoted the remarks of the local police.

Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's senior adviser said the special forces were still in Sieviero Donetsk and ordered the Russians to bombard. Adviser Oleksiy Aresevich spoke at the video address.

Russian officials said there could still be hundreds of people in the huge Azoth factory, and they evacuated as the fighting spread.

TASS quoted police working in the self-proclaimed People's Republic of Luhansk, where Severodonetsk is located.

"Our special forces are messing around and pointing our artillery at our enemies. In other words, we can't say that the troops have completely withdrawn from Sieviero Donetsk." Bitch said.

Earlier that day, both Kieu and Moscow said they had withdrawn from Severodonetsk after weeks of brutal battles in which Ukrainian troops destroyed 90% of the city. (Report by David Ljunggren; edited by Sandra Maler)
