The Chicago White Sox have placed infielder Danny Mendick and outfielder Adam Engel on Thursday's 10-day injured list.

Mendick is almost certainly heading for the season after tearing the ACL on his right knee when he lost to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Engel left the tension of the right hamstring in the same game.

Injured 28-year-old Mendick, a shortstop who fired a foul pop on his left fielder in the second inning. He collided with left fielder Adam Haseley (who caught), suffered considerable pain and was rescued off the field.

Engel departed three times later.

The seriousness of Mendick's injury was detected when MRI results were returned Thursday.

Mendick said he didn't regret how aggressively he chased the ball before the match against Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.

"I didn't think it would be this bad," Mendick said. "It probably contained adrenaline. When I went down, it definitely hurt and I couldn't put pressure on it.

" MRI is back and ACL When I was told that I was torn, I said, "I have a plan. I need to understand, rehabilitate and get it back."

Mendick has 3 home runs and 15 RBIs in 31 games this season. I'm hitting .289. Engel hit .240 with 1 home run and 10 RBIs in 56 games.

Also, Chicago center fielder Luis Robert (foot pain) was not a starting member on Thursday. He has hit .300 with 7 home runs, 36 RBIs and 11 steals in 53 games.

Chicago has filled the opening in the roster by recalling infielder / outfielder Gavin Sheets and infielder Renin Sosa. The spreadsheet hit .204 with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs in 44 White Sox games this season. He was sent to Triple A Charlotte earlier this month.

Sosa hit .331 with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs in 62 games in Double A Birmingham.

Also, outfielder Eloy Jimenez (hamstring) was transferred to IL for 60 days.
