A woman is in hospital with critical injuries and a man is in jail following an alleged assault in New Westminster Tuesday afternoon.

A woman is in hospital with critical injuries and a man is in jail following an alleged assault in New Westminster Tuesday afternoon.

New Westminster police were called to a home on Princess Street around 1 p.m. after receiving a call regarding a serious assault.

An injured woman was found and transported to hospital, while a man wanted in connection with the incident was arrested later that day by Vancouver police.

The NWPD believe the two parties are known to each other.

Andywele Mullings, 42, has been charged with one count each of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

“I would appeal to members of the public who were in the area at the time who may have witnessed something suspicious to contact us,” NWPD Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in a statement. “Any small piece of information could assist us as we piece everything together.”

The New Westminster Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.
