Woman in serious condition after New Westminster stabbing

A woman is in hospital with serious injuries and a suspect is being sought after a stabbing In New Westminster.

Police were called to Alexander Street in downtown New West at about 7 p.m. last Tuesday.

A woman with several stab wounds was being treated by B.C. Ambulance paramedics. She was taken to a local hospital with in serious but stable condition.

A search of the area did not turn up any suspects. The New Westminster police major crimes unit is interviewing witnesses and collecting surveillance footage.

“We take this kind of incident extremely seriously and we are conducting a very thorough investigation to ensure this suspect is identified and held accountable,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver in a release. “I would urge members of the public who saw anything suspicious or witnessed the incident to come forward and report information to us immediately.”
