On Wednesday afternoon, the hosts Kansas City Royals defeated the Chicago White Sox, 5-3, as Zach Greinke defeated the Dylan Sees.

The Royals won the 4-game series 3 games to 1. It was the first time since August 11–18, 2014, that the Royals won back-to-back four-game series after taking three of four from the Red Sox in previous series.

Greinke (4-7) had his nine hits in his 6 1/3 innings scoreless. He didn't walk a hitter and stole 5.

Scott Barlow recorded his 18th save.

Seas (12-5) allowed him only one run on three hits until six innings. His one of the hits was a home run to Vinnie Pascantino. Cease walked 2 and hit 8.

Since May 24 (the last time he allowed two or more earned runs), Cease has allowed five earned runs and eight. He allowed 0 earned runs, and all 5 earned runs were his solo home runs.

The Royals got on the board in his second on Pascantino's solo homer. Pascantino hit his 3-2 slider into the bullpen 398 feet to the right. It was the 10th home run the Seas allowed all season.

Although Cease pitched six innings and allowed only three hits, Greinke spent most of the afternoon negotiating in traffic. He left after giving up a one-out single in the seventh inning.

The Royals added his three runs to his seventh inning. His two runs in the first were scored on Nicky Lopez's two-run single. Lopez then scored on a two-out single by MJ Melendez.

Grandal hit a two-run homer in the top of his eighth, tying Chicago within two runs. Michael A. Taylor's single drove Bobby his Wit Jr. in the bottom half.

Andrew Vaughan hit a home run in his ninth inning, and Barlow retired his next three batters.
